I’m an absolute beginner with the ukulele (tried guitar but just couldn’t get it) so I didn’t want to spend lots just in case I was rubbish (like with the guitar). Before I bought one I thought I would look at lots of reviews. There were lots of contenders in my (small) price range but all the reviews I read or watched agreed that Donner made very good instruments. I liked the look and sound of the DUC-400 so after a couple of weeks of nervous procrastination I bit the bullet and ordered one on line. I’m so happy I did. My new (first ever) Uke sounds wonderful and even my wife agrees that it looks beautiful. After two weeks of free online lessons I’m strumming songs! This is SO much better than my guitar experience! I’m truly happy with my Uke. The sound is great, the quality and construction top notch. I don’t think it could be matched in this price range. I would highly recommend trying the ukulele to anyone who wants to make music and I very highly recommend Donner for your first, wonderful Uke experience.

Christmas gift for my 14 year old. She loves it! Has already learned a few songs. Does need to be tuned frequently, but I’ve heard that’s common with nylon strings. Seems to be really good quality and nice sound! Would definitely recommend, especially if you can catch it on a discount.

My personal human loves this ukulele. He wants you to know that it takes a couple of weeks for the strings to settle. Going out of tune is normal for new strings.

Such a great uke! The Donner DUC400 concert set is such a great value! You get the case, extra strings, a mini tuner, strap and picks as well as a microfiber cleaning cloth. I have another uke that is five times the price and honestly this Donner is every bit as good I totally love it! Get it! I promise you won’t regret it!

The ukelele came very well packaged. Not only was it in the padded gig bag, but it was also foam wrapped protecting it from marring. The bundle also came with a strap, picks, a clip-on tuner, polishing cloth and extra strings. The head of the ukelele has a string attached with two cards, one with care instructions and another with a chords chart. The strap has a nice woven pattern and is of good quality. This is my second Donner clip-on tuner. It tracks well and the accuracy matches my tuners from other brands. The gig bag is well built too, with a pocket big enough to carry any accessories you may need to take with you. It is padded and has a nice orange accent ribbing. There is a set of adjustable shoulder straps attached to the back. I was impressed with the ukelele itself, it is wooden with a beautiful grain and a double binding on the body. A couple of the frets had a rough edge which I easily buffed to be fine. I expected this with the wooden construction and climate differences. The tuners are attractive in appearance and seem to hold tune well so far. I'm not a huge fan of the palm tree engraving but it does fit the mood of the instrument. Overall, this is a solid instrument with some style. I have not seen a ukelele with a nicer gig bag. I would recommend this to anyone starting out, especially since literally everything you need is included right down to the chord chart.

Sound: Is very balanced. There’s nothing particularly shrill or cheap sounding about it, it’s just that classic ukulele tone for days. It’s quite smooth and relaxing; so it fulfills the role quite well. It’s actually hard to go in-depth about it’s sound because balanced, smooth, and relaxing describes it perfectly. No one string or part of the frequency spectrum seemed out of step here. Build quality: Is great. All the woods used have beautiful grain, there’s plenty of mahogany to help smooth out the sound, and rosewood for the bridge and fretboard which again helps warm up and smooth out the sound. The matte finish also feels very nice in the hands. Moving your fretting hand around on this little guy is really easy because of it. The binding on the body is done perfectly and the logo is an inlay rather then printed text. They’ve also added some palm trees around the sound hole for a very subtle but nice design touch. It’s pretty clear this instrument was designed and built well. The accessories while nothing special are all good quality as well. The tuner will do the job, the picks look very nice though I personally prefer grippier picks, the strap is comfortable, and the gig bag has sufficient padding, and it itself has a palm tree on it to match the design and relaxing-beach-theme the whole instrument adheres to. My only complain is the zippers on the gig bag are a bit finicky and don’t go from end to end in one smooth motion. Playability: I touched on this above but to go more in depth I’d say this feels and plays like a classic ukulele. The finish allows for fast and fluid movements, the neck is tiny but in a C shape so it has a certain familiarity for those of us who play more vintage style guitars, fret access is great for the first octave and then what you’d expect after that, and it’s so light you can play it without a strap while standing just fine. All this combined makes it perfect for beginners or even those who need a good uke for gigs.

Very good for me as a beginner as it comes complete with all the essentials and in particular the tuner I've found is a must. Like with all new string instruments, daily tuning is expected and I have notice that one string goes out of tune faster than the others, with two being very stable indeed. The biggest thing for me is the lovely tone this concert Ukulele produces, which after a bit of on-line research is probably due to the fact it has a solid mahogany top. Good purchase.
