The Donner Special-I is a compact passive direct box that is perfect for connecting unbalanced sounds sources, like guitars, basses, and keyboards directly to mixing consoles or other XLR devices. It is small enough to fifit inside your gig bag or instrument case.

The design of this DI Box is simple. Connect your unbalanced signal to the parallel input. Attach the parallel output to your on-stage amplififier if desired. The XLR balanced output can then be fed to the mixing board directly without having to mic your amplififier. You can also choose not to plug into an amplififier and use the sound directly through the mixing console. The signal conversion is done by the custom-made Donner LAB-S1 transformer, which performs the impedance matching and balances the signal.

Input (1/4in TS): Unbalanced, Hi-Z input connection for musical instruments.

Parallel Output(1/4in TS): Connects the instrument to an on-stage amplifier if desired.

OUTPUT (XLR): Balanced mic-level output. Connect this to your audio interface or a mixing console using a high quality XLR cable.

GND LIFT(ground lift) switch: Reduce hum and buzz caused by ground loops if any occur. Otherwise, disengage the switch or you may lose sound.

Havnt used this yet, but was very impressed with the build of this box. I reckon i could drive my car over it, and it would still be fine afterwards......very solid!!!

Well made and built pretty solidly. It has some weight to it for the size. Though it is small enough to throw it in your gig bag. Very quiet, low noise. I am using it to record bass, electric and acoustic guitar and keyboards in my home studio. Also, use the parallel feature to eliminate ground loops while runnig a second guitar amp in a stereo rig. Roadworthy, I will be buying another one or two to take with me on the road when this pandemic is over. For the price and quality, can't beat it!

I just got my new Donner DI Box and immediately put it to the test. Does it really cancel the hum and provide exceptional sound quality? Yes, it does. As usual I am finding Donner products to be well made and live up to their promise of great quality while remaining affordable. This particular product feels like It could withstand a lot of punishment from getting tossed around on the road and still perform as intended.

At this or any price point it’s perfect. It is what it is; passive, quiet when ground lift is engaged and it gets a balanced signal to your recording interface or PA. I recommend you get one. I’m pretty happy with mine.

I’ll get right to the point - this is a great DI and a tremendous value. I recently purchased the Donner DI box for my home studio because I wanted the benefit of having both my amped sound and a DI signal for manipulation later. This DI sounds great, we’ll beyond its price-point, which makes it a great value. Firstly, the ground-lift eliminated my nasty hum. Secondly, the DI sound is warm and clear. It is the perfect addition to my recordings because I can get a great clean tone into Pro Tool and then make it into what I need with amp sims. One of the great practical benefits of this DI is that I hear my amp tone while playing, which inspires me to play differently. It’s so much better to have real-time amped sound than it is to play to a plain DI signal. I recommend this DI box to anyone in search of a quality tool for their studio.

I added the DI box so I could get a dry signal out of my guitar chain and into my Audio interface on my computer. This way while recording my guitar through my amp and pedal board I can also get the dry signal into my DAW. This allows me to re amp re cab or change up the sound later if I want to. I also use it as a way to just play through my amp sims without having to run or switch to a separate cable to my audio interface. I dont have much in the way of Bass gear so I use it alot this way to track bass parts through an amp sim. This also allows for streaming of the amp sim audio to OBS I love that it has the ground lift. I had tried to do something similar to what this does with an A/B box but it added so much 60 cycle hum that I took it out and have not used it since. Sound coming from the box does not add any noise to the signal I'd buy it again!

The Donner DI Box cleaned up the hum from my recording studio and my single coil guitars. I heard this would help with my Focusrite interface and reduce clipping and it sure does the guitar sound is now very clean and I am able to increase my input gain from the Focusrite without clipping. This is a good purchase and I would buy it again.

I got this for my church so we could add a Ukulele to our band. It was a reasonable price and had reasonable reviews. Setup of a DI box is simple and it either works or it doesn't. I was able to get it setup for the Uke with no issues. Signal was clear and strong. So far I am happy with our purchase, I will update this if I run into any issues.

This Donner Special-I direct box has all the features you would expect in a direct box... but you would think it would cost so much more. This direct box is durable, sounds great, and won't break the bank. If you are in the market for a direct box, I don't see how you could go wrong with this one!

I have a home studio and was in need of a passive DI box. I’ve been really happy with my previous Donner products so I ordered their Special-I DI box. Its built solid and though I will be only using it for my home studio, it looks like it would withstand Live use abuse and still work great. This DI does exactly what I needed a DI to do, convert the signal and most importantly eliminate buzz/hum. I would recommend this DI especially if you have a home studio.

I play bass with single coil pickups for church, I've been fighting noise in the output for a long time. I've had to use an old 9v battery powered DI box to minimize the noise. This passive box is a huge improvement. The annoyances of dead batteries from forgetting to unplug the instrument cable and the loud noises coming through the PA when plugging in are gone. The sound quality is really good. The single coil pickups don't add any noise into the audio. Since it's a passive box you're going to have to turn the gain up. I'm really impressed by this thing. I'm getting rid of my other box and sticking with this one

This is a very solid little DI box which does exactly what you need it to do. Output from my acoustic guitar passes cleanly and quietly into PA via this passive box (doesn’t need a battery). It also feels like it will take all the hits it might get on stage with no problems - very solid and sturdy construction.
